About the Yankees

The New York Yankees are one of the eight original franchises of the MLB and the most successful so far, having won 26 world championships, which is a record no one else is even close to. Based in the Bronx, the Yankees have had a very rich history with some of the greatest players of all time wearing the famous Yankee pinstripes. The team is currently owned by George Steinbrenner, although most of the controls have been handed over to his sons, Hank and Hal Steinbrenner, due to health problems which the 77 year old owner faces. The current captain of the Yankees in Derek Jeter, who is loved by many Yankee fans in the same way as former captain Don Mattingly had been. The Yankees are always “in it” no matter how bad it gets and their amazing streak of 13 straight playoff appearances shows that.
