Rubber Match in Pittsburgh

Posted by Rodney under Game Previews

Both teams have won a game in the series rather easily. Tonight will be the rubber match of a three game set between the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The first pitch is schedule for 7:05pm at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

Mike Mussina will take the hill for the Yankees. Moose is 10-5 on the year with a 3.93 era. He is the winningest pitcher against the opposite league since interleague play began in 1997. Mike is 21-13 against the NL, but is coming off a loss to the Reds last week. Mussina, who is originally from Pennsylvania, has never pitched in Pittsburgh, but is 1-0 in his career against the Pirates, throwing a complete game shut out in his only start.

For the Pirates- Paul Maholm will take the hill. The lefthander has won three straight decisions and has not lost a game since May 20th. Maholm is 3-0 with a 3.61 in his last six starts, and is also 4-1 at home this season. In his interleague career, Paul has a record of 2-4 with a 4.42 era.

The Yankees come in 42-36, third in the AL East, and are one game over .500 on the road, at 20-19. The Pirates sit at 37-42, for fourth in the NL Central, and are playing at a 24-17 clip at home.

Should be a nice ball game. I say Mussina pitches another gem against the Pirates, and the Yankees win! The YAAAAAAANKEEEEEES WIN!

I hope Moose is good tonight. I’d hate to lose the series to the Pirates.
