Ugly night for the Yankees

What an ugly Tuesday night for the New York Yankees. The Pittsburgh Pirates banged out 19 hits, and scored 12 runs, in a 12-5 rout over the Yankees. The news gets worse for the Yankees, as Boston and Tampa Bay also won, causing the Yanks to fall a game behind each of those teams in the AL East standings.

Freddie Sanchez got the scoring started in the first with an RBI single. Adam LaRoche singled in another run, and after one inning, it was quickly 2-0 Pirates. Jason Bay then doubled in the third run of the game in the third inning, before the major onslaught began.

Pittsburgh scored 2 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, 2 in the 7th, and 3 in the 8th to complete their 12 run game. The Yankees got a tally in the 4th, and grabbed a pair in both the 6th and the 9th, but not nearly enough.

Robinson Cano came away with 3 hits for the Yankees raising his average to .235.

Darrell Rasner was not sharp for the Yankees, as he only went 5 innings, allowing 10 hits, and 7 earned runs. He is now 4-5 on the season. For the Pirates, Tom Gorzelanny evened his record up to 6-6, by going 6 innings in which he gave up 6 hits and 3 runs.

Tomorrow’s game will start at 7:05 and feature Jaba Chamberlain for the Yankees. He will take on the Pirates young fireballer Zach Duke.
