Yanks/Buccos set to battle in game 2
Posted by Rodney under Game Previews
The Yankees look to get back on the winning track today, after the 12-5 drubbing at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.
Yankees 41-36(19-19 on the road) will have Joba Chamberlain on the hill tonight. Joba is 1-2 overall this season, with a sparkling 2.36 era. In his last two starts, both have been well pitched games, but neither have been wins. On June 13th, we went 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, and just 1 run in a 2-1 Yankee win over the Astros. Then, in his last start against San Diego Joba threw 5.2 innings, allowing just 4 hits, and 1 run. Joba has only faced one current Pirate batter, and that is Jason Michaels, who is 0-1 in his career off Chamberlain.
For the Pirates, the tough, young lefty Zach Duke will be throwing. Duke is 4-4 on the year with a 3.91 era. Lately Duke has pitched very well. His last two starts have both been no decisions, but he has not lost in the month of June. In his last four starts, he has went 6 innings, or more, allowing no more than 4 runs. Duke is 4-2 at home this year with a 3.18 era.
This could be a tough game tonight. If Duke is on, the Pirates will be tough to hit. We are going to need much better pitching then we got yesterday. And with Joba pitching, we will have to use our bullpen. Let’s hope we only need them for 3 innings- no more. Also, let’s be patient against Duke, and I think we’ll get to him!
Good luck Yankees! Time for another winning streak!
Here is tonight’s winning lineup:
- Cabrera CF
- Jeter SS
- Abreu RF
- Rodriguez 3B
- Giambi 1B
- Posada C
- Cano 2B
- Christian LF
- Chamberlain P
